Antique type, related to the artichoke. A perennial. The leafstalks, which are covered by dark plastic a few weeks before harvesting in order to blanch them, have a fresh taste. When harvested early (August) unblanched they are still juicy and tender. When harvested late (October) the taste is somewhat bitter and the crop a little tougher. The inner veins, the heart and the flower are edible. Sow as of April in a greenhouse, in early May in the garden. Both the leaves and flowers are attractive.

The fruit (false fruit) has a sweet fragrance. It is edible, but much smaller than cultivated strawberries. The small fruit is freshly flavoured, making it suitable for fruit salads, fruit drinks, syrup and jam. Sow thinly in a greenhouse in seed trays, and cover with a thin layer of soil. Germination takes some time. Prick out once emerged. Suitable for pots, edges and rock gardens.

A delicious watermelon that can be cultivated well also in the Benelux. Can only be sown directly in the garden in very warm summers. The red flesh of the 4 kg fruits has a deliciously fresh flavour. Tomato Goldene Konigin

A yellow tomato, which can be cultivated both in greenhouses and outdoors. Fruits weigh approx. 100 g and have a unique but somewhat less sweet flavour. Sow in seed trays and as soon as they can be handled prick out in pots or soil blocks. Later transplant to a greenhouse or outside to a warm, sheltered spot. After approximately 4 fruit bunches pinch out the top of the plant. Always remove the offshoots in the axils of the leaves (nip out). After some time fertilize with tomato feed.
